CHOREOGRAPER

about the choreographer:

Mercedes lewis is a multidisciplinary performance maker, body based artist and practice based researcher based in London. Using materials and materiality as part of her choreographic process, she steps outside and between the boundaries of dance, movement and installation. Within her use of material elements, rituals and ancestral inspiration become a part of her moving and making process. Her installations, place based dance and performance art are currently influenced by play, peace, healing, celebration, experiences, embodiment, shapes, tasks, looping, seeing, design, self, hair, sites, visuals, gestures, scores, recipes and grooving.

Engagement with social and political issues within her choreographic work, intends to provoke and challenge learned behaviours, motivate new ways of talking and acknowledge past and present. Audiences are encouraged to both join a conversation, see themselves as the problem and become agents of change.
